  • What does BonneHome mean?

The term bonhomie in French means “cheerful friendliness” or “geniality”. The name BonneHome combines Emily’s lifelong love of the French language with her belief that the home should be a cheerful space for those who live there.

A note on sustainability.

Responsible use and reuse is an incredible way for individuals to reduce their environmental impact. Central to the work BonneHome does is the belief that refreshing your home does not require buying all new everything to achieve the look and function you want.

Reorganizing your home involves choosing to let some things go. I work with clients to ensure that as much as possible gets reused or recycled.

If we agree that new purchases are needed to achieve your goals, I always start by scouring local consignment stores before purchasing new.

Emily Schauer, founder of BonneHome

About Emily

Emily Schauer is the founder of BonneHome. She holds two central beliefs about home design:

  • Having an organized space you love is an essential foundation for making the rest of life happen

  • One’s personal space is a form of communication as much as what they wear, the community they build, and the music they listen to.

These two beliefs, combined with her drive to create expressive order from chaos, have driven Emily to design the spaces she occupies since adolescence, when she organized the pantry for fun and regularly rearranged her bedroom as form of creative expression. Emily founded BonneHome with the desire to put her skills into action for those to whom home organization and styling don’t come naturally—because everyone deserves to feel comfortable and energized by the home they live in, as well as confident that their home authentically communicates who they are.

Before founding BonneHome, Emily led B2B communications for clients in tech and healthcare and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, West Africa. Emily lives with her husband and two children in Seattle, where she still sees her home as her creative sandbox.
